Submissions & Peer Review - USV - Messages Sages and Ages

The ethics statements for Messages, Sages and Ages are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. Submission of a manuscript to the journal implies that all authors have read and agreed to its content and that the manuscript conforms to the journal’s policies.

The journal uses “double-blind” peer review policy. To facilitate the journal’s anonymous refereeing process, there must be no indication of personal identity or institutional affiliation in the manuscript proper. The author may cite his/her previous works, but only in the third person.

Papers may be submitted at any time. In order to reduce the occurrence of technical errors, please send your paper as an attachment to BOTH msa@litere.usv.ro and msa_usv@hotmail.com; the manuscript should be in MS Word format AND in PDF format.

Plagiarism Screening System
MSA is using plagiarism detection services in order to ensure that the content published is original and trustworthy. Internet-based plagiarism detection is meant to allow for comprehensive manuscript screening, aimed to help with the peer-review of papers written for MSA.

Author Guidelines & MSA template

Authors are expected to give biographical details (less than 400 words) in the footnote of the title page.

Please note the following editing requirements from the Editors:

The author’s name should be written in the top left corner in Times New Roman 11.

The page size should be set to A4 (21 cm x 29,7 cm).

The title is to be written in capitals, centred.

The e-mail address and affiliation of the author(s) must be provided in the footer of the first page.

Articles should be submitted as Word for Windows doc or docx File AND in PDF format.

Please use Times New Roman 11, single-spaced throughout the main text.

Quotes longer than 3 lines should be indented (use block quotes) and, alongside notes and references, have to be written in Times New Roman 10.

The whole text must be justified.

Articles should not exceed 9000 words, including abstract, key words, footnotes, and the list of works cited.

Articles should be preceded by an abstract, ranging from 100 to 300 words, written in Times New Roman 11, single spaced, justified.

A maximum of 5 keywords should be provided.

Single spacing must also be used in quotations, notes and Works Cited.

Notes should be placed at the bottom of the page and numbered sequentially.

Do not insert page numbers.

For terminology use italics.

References inside the text should look like this: (Collins, 2000); (Collins, 2000:13).

When the same author is quoted frequently and only one work by this author is quoted from, use only the author’s name and page number in brackets (Collins, 27). However, when you mention this author for the first time in your text, full in-text reference is compulsory.

The list of Works Cited should contain only items mentioned inside the text, alphabetically arranged and presented in the following way:

Books:

Collins, H. D. 2000. Principles of Language Learning and Teaching. White Plains, NY: Pearson Education.

Articles in journals:

Yawn, B. 1974. “Case analysis.” Language Learning vol. X, no. Y. 205-214.

Articles/chapters published in books edited by other authors:

Online sources:

Film resources should be quoted as such:

Submission Preparation

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all of the following items; submissions that fail to do so are going to be returned to authors.

– the submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided to the Editor).

– the submission file is in Microsoft Word file format AND in PDF format.

– the text adheres to the requirements outlined in Author Guidelines.

Copyright Notice

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the Publisher. The Editors reserve the right to edit or otherwise alter all contributions, but authors will receive proofs for approval before publication.

As far as their work is concerned, authors are invited not to use images, figures, etc., if they do not own the copyright or already have reprint permission.

Copyrights for articles published in MSA are retained by the authors, with first publication rights granted to the journal.

The journal/publisher is not responsible for subsequent uses of the work. It is the author’s responsibility to bring an infringement action if so desired by the author.

Guidelines for the Peer-Reviewing Process (Peer Review Form & Agreement)

The first stage of the reviewing process is the initial editor screening.

MSA uses the double-blind peer-reviewing system meant to represent both the interests of authors and editors by making sure that all published papers match the highest standards in academic research.

Secondly, all information conveying the identity of the author(s) and of the reviewers is anonymized.

At least two referees conduct the actual review process.

On their recommendation, the editorial team informs the author(s) of the final decision: accepted without revisions, accepted with substantial or minor revisions or rejection.

When revision of a manuscript is requested, authors should return the revised version of their manuscript as soon as possible.

If it is the first revision of an article, authors need to return their revised manuscript within 20 days.

If it is the second revision authors need to return their revised manuscript within 7 days. If these deadlines are not met, and no specific arrangements for completion have been made with the Editor, the manuscript will be treated as a new one.
